Making Sushi, How To Add Avocado Topping To Your Sushi Roll

Avocados that are ready to cut are dark green, and usually the skin of the avocado is a softer texture. Unripen avocados are lighter green in color on the skin, and are very firm.

To add an avocado as a topping to your sushi roll, you need to cut a avocado like shown in the photo. You will need about a third of the avocado, although you can use half if you like. Make sure your avocado is ripen, else it won't flatten as nicely to the roll.

To prepare the avocado, use a knife, and cut 1/3 from the avocado as shown.

Add additional topping like sesame seeds, sauces, as per the roll your making.

FYI

You can add the avocado topping after you cut the roll or before you cut the roll, however, i have found it easier for some rolls, to add the avocado after cutting the roll.

Before adding the avocado, use the bamboo mat, and cover the roll in saran wrap. then firm the roll.

Remove the wrap, then add your avocado topping. Add another saran wrap, and firm the roll again. This will flatten the avocado to the roll, giving it a nicer look.

To cut the roll after you've added the avocado, leave the saran wrap on once you've firmed the roll, as this will keep the avocado intact and keep your hands from sticking to the rice as you cut the roll.
