HOW TO MAKE AGEDASHI

Using Bean Curd or Tofu, cubed and lightly floured with corn starch, pan fried in canola or sesame oil, garnished with a fish flavoured garnish of bonito flakes, grated ginger, or a vege garnish of shredded cucumber and seaweed, with julienned carrot, tempura sauce.
Ingredients
Ingredients for this appetizer dish are: tofu, or bean curd, bonito fish flakes, ginger, or cucumber, seawweed(nora), carrots, salt, pepper.
Buy The Tofu - Bean Curd
Package of tofu firm, or x firm from your Asian market or you can use bean curd roll. Both are found in the fridge section at the Asian grocer.
Buy The Vegetables, Bonita Flakes, Tempura Sauce
Seaweed - use a piece of nora and cut into thin strips or you can buy shredded seaweed at the Asian grocer.
Cucumber and carrots are available at the local grocery stores.
Ginger is available at most all grocery stores; buy a chunk and grate it.
Bonito flakes are available at the Asian grocer.
Tempura dipping sauce is available at the Asian grocer.
Cook The Cubed Tofu/Bean Curd
Cut into cubes about 1/2 inch square, then cover each cube in corn starch. Just put the corn starch on a plate and dab all sides of each cube.

In fry pan with 3-4 tablespoons sesame oil (or canola) fry each side of the cubes until all sides is slightly browned and coated. Can also add some salt and pepper if you like.

Add Cooked Ingredients to Serving Dish

In a small appetizer dish, pour tempura sauce just to cover the bottom of the dish. Put the fryed cubed tofu or bean curd into the dish.

Garnish the Dish
Add the garnish of bonito fish flakes and ginger, or vege garnish of cucumber, carrot and seaweed strips. Add a small side dish of tempura sauce.

For vege garnish: use a spiral vege cutter and cut the cucumber.
For bonito/ginger garnish: add bonito fish flakes to the dish, add some grated ginger.

FYI - this dish can also be prepared by deep frying the tofu or bean curd. To do so, just coat each cubed piece with the corn starch and then deep fry for 1-2 mins, or till slightly browned. Place them on a paper towel for a few minutes then add to your serving dish.

Potato starch can be used instead of corn starch.
