How To Make, Sushi Nigiri Sirimi

To make sushi nigiri sirimi, you need imitation crab sticks and formed sushi rice.

The crab sticks can be bought at most grocery stores in the fresh fish section. They coat $3-4, depending on how many sticks are in the package. Imitation crab is pollock that has been seasoned with crab flavouring. They are already cooked when you buy them.

Form the Sushi Rice
First you form the sushi rice by placing a small amount of rice sushi rice in the palm of your hand, and using your opposite hand thumb to exact the measurement. The rice formed should be no longer than the length of your thumb, and the width no wider than the first joint on your thumb, and the height is about 1/2 inch.

This is the size of most sushi nigiri as made for sushi dishes in stores, and sushi eateries. You can of course, make them any size you like.

Professional sushi chefs make the rice forms for nigiri using this same method. You can also buy sushi nigiri molds, which make it easy to form the rice also.
You can buy them at Amazon and your local Asian market may carry them.

Add Wasabi

Next, you can add a dab of wasabi to the top of the rice. This adds a nice flavour to the nigiri when eaten, and it helps to keep the topping on the rice. Wsaabi has a very strong distinct flavour so just a dab as shown in this photo is all that is needed.
Add the Topping
Now add your crab stick to the top of the rice. Place it on the dab of wasabi and gently firm it to the rice. The crab stick has to be cut as they are longer than the length needed.
The topping should not be wider than the width of the rice and it should overhang at least on one end of the rice as shown in this photo.
Serve on Dish
A serving of nigiri is usually 2 or three pieces, although some menus do allow you to buy just one piece. Put the nigiri on your serving dish; add some wasabi and a little side dish of soy sauce or unagi sauce. Unagi is a fish dipping sauce. You can buy it at your local Asian grocer.
